Weinberg Center for Elder Abuse

The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Center for Elder Abuse Prevention is the nation’s first long-term comprehensive regional elder abuse shelter for eligible seniors who are 60 and older.

The center is located at the Hebrew Home at Riverdale, and offers a full range of healthcare and supportive services, including a coordinated system that provides a safe harbor, emotional support, psychological counseling, legal advocacy and representation for victims of abuse.

In addition to providing shelter, the center’s mission is to enhance public awareness and knowledge on the topic.

Elder abuse can be emotional, physical and/or financial. It is estimated that 2.1 million older Americans are victims of such abuse or neglect, and their monetary loss is estimated to be at least $2.6 billion a year.

Attorney Joy Solomon is director and managing attorney at the Weinberg Center and director of Elder Abuse Services at the Pace Women’s Justice Center.
