Help Grandparents Provide Back-to-School Supplies
The Grandparents Coalition of Westchester County’s Department of Senior Programs and Services (DSPS) is once again accepting donations to help seniors who are raising their grandchildren pay for school supplies.
“This is a very worthwhile program,” said County Executive Robert P. Astorino said. “I encourage people to generously help.”
About 4,740 grandparents in Westchester County have sole responsibility for raising their grandchildren. Many of them receive little or no subsidies to care for them, and often had to leave retirement and return to work. Some must hold down two jobs to meet expenses and even then skimp on their personal and medical needs to pay expenses for school supplies for their grandchildren.
Through the Westchester Public/Private Partnership for Aging Services, the Grandparents Coalition welcomes tax-deductible gifts of $20, but any amount is welcome.
