Celebrating 50 Years of Service for Westchester’s Older Adults

Awards

The following awards honor seniors or organizations who have generously contributed their energies and abilities to improve the quality of life in their community or in the county at large.

The Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services takes pride in providing cutting-edge leadership to improve the quality of life for older persons - not only at home but as a role model around the country. In the process, the county has won many awards for its programs for seniors.

2014 Women's Hall of Fame Award
On March 28, Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino honored Commissioner Mae Carpenter for winning the prestigious Women's Hall of Fame Award from the Women’s Research and Education Fund.
2013 N4a Awards
Senior Programs and Services won prestigious awards from the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging for two trailblazing initiatives.
2011 National Association of Counties (NACo) Awards
Three department programs were recognized with four National Association of Counties (NACo) Awards, including one for “Best in Category.”
Commissioner Wins Two Awards
Distinguished Achievement in Aging Award from the NYS Office for the Aging
Award from Hudson Valley Home Matters – new “aging in place” organization in Dutchess County
County Commissioner Receives Society on Aging Award
Mae Carpenter recognized at conference in White Plains for her service to seniors
County's Livable Communities Initiative Wins Two International Awards in 2010
DSPS’ Livable Communities initiative won two International Liveable Communities Awards in the United Nations-endorsed worldwide competition in areas that promote best practices in livable communities such as  sustaining communities, promoting healthy lifestyles and planning for the future.  The department won these awards in partnership with AARP of New York and the Westchester Public/Private Partnership for Aging Services.
